Organisation
The Centre for African Studies Basel is a central institution of the University of Basel cutting across disciplines and faculties. Membership is open to those teaching and researching on Africa at the University of Basel. Non-university institutions engaging with Africa on an academic level may apply for association.
The daily activities are run by the Coordination Office assuring the continuous flow of information within the Centre and beyond. It is represented by the Speaker (currently Prof Till Förster). The member institutions delegate representatives in a coordination group which meets at least twice a year in order to discuss and plan joint projects and activities.
The Centre cooperates with the Swiss Society for African Studies (SGAS) and the network of Centres for African Studies in Europe (AEGIS), the African Studies Program of the University of Wisconsin, Madison (USA), the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) and various universities in Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Tanzania and South Africa.
