Concert: The Carlo Mombelli Project
Carlo Mombelli (Johannesburg) is artist in residence at the bird's eye jazz club during the month of April.
The visionary bass player and composer from South Africa toured the region in October 2009 with his band The Prisoners of Strange. Now he is back for a residency during which he performs with both established and upcoming musicians. Mombelli creates music at the border of jazz and sound design. He creates an athmospheric space based on accoustic and electronic elements, in which he establishes new compositions through improvisation. Like a wizard he absorbs the sounds of his surroundings. In the process springs, sheets of metal, bells, but also kids' toys become the basis for new instruments. www.carlomombelli.com, www.myspace.com/carlomombelli
