There are other Swiss universities besides Basel, which offer Africa-related courses. Courses offered by the Historical Seminar and the Seminar für Allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft of the University of Zurich, by Geneva (Ethnoarchaeology), the Institute for Social Anthropology of the University of Berne as well as by the IUED Geneva have all become an established part of our MA African Studies. Occasionally courses at other Swiss universities have also been included in our curriculum. All lectures attended within the framework of this cooperation are fully recognised in terms of MA credit points (CP).
Some universities in the area of the upper Rhine (Strasbourg, Colmar, Mulhouse, Karlsruhe, Freiburg i. Br.) offer individual subjects that might possibly be of interest to students doing African studies. With the EUCOR student identity card you can enjoy the same rights of use and discounts as students who are registered there (including the use of university libraries etc.) Attending lectures at other universities incurs no fees – please visit this link for further information.
The Centre for African Studies Basel is a member of the Africa-Europe Group for Interdisciplinary Studies (AEGIS) which includes among its members many influential teaching and research centres (Barcelona, Bayreuth, Bordeaux, Brussels, Copenhagen, Edinburgh, Hamburg, Leiden, Leipzig, Lisbon, London, Naples, Uppsala) These networked institutions place an emphasis on the social and cultural sciences. We would like to encourage students to study at a partner institution for some time or to participate in a Summer School programme. Further information is available from the AEGIS website.
- ERASMUS / SOKRATES
The ERASMUS programme allows more advanced students (who have completed an initial course of studies) to study at technical universities elsewhere in Europe and have courses completed there accredited in Basel. More information is available from the homepage of the office for international exchange programmes (Büro für internationale Austauschprogramme).
We encourage our students to enrich their study experiences by studying at an African university. For this reason we set up cooperations with African universities and look forward to informing you about current study opportunities. Kindly approach the coordination office with your enquiries.
The International Exchange Programmes office (Büro für internationale Austauschprogramme) will inform you about further study opportunities abroad.
