Researching and te aching Europe is not entirely concentrated in Europe or in the United Stat es. Cen-ters for European studies are active around the globe\, from Beiji ng to Belo Horizonte. While this is not entirely surprising\, it still rai ses the question: what determines the interest in European studies outside of Europe? Is research on Europe at all politicized and\, if it is\, whic h factors matter? Is there a role played by the European Union in strength ening the research of Europe around the globe and to which extent is knowl edge of Europe determined by domestic factors? These questions are tackled as part of a workshop on the politicization of European Studies in Asia.
