Publication: "Performing Contestation. Narratives on Critical Malian Theatre Plays"
In her article, Melanie Sampayo explores the potential and limits of the popular satire theatre Kotéba in transporting critical narratives into the Malian public sphere. Through the accounts of two cultural agents who were actively implicated in creating plays and censorship-processes during the Moussa Traoré regime (1968-1991), she traces Kotéba’s development and social function to discuss the interconnection of theatre, narrative and contestation.
