Call for Papers: Transatlantic Memories, Blackness, and African Diasporic Identity

Harriet Tubman Institute, York University, Canada (11-12 May 2022)

The Harriet Tubman Institute for Research on Africa and its Diasporas (York University), invites paper submissions for a virtual conference on “Transatlantic Memories, Blackness, and Diasporic Identity: Now and in the Future.”

Papers drawing upon various disciplinary perspectives, e.g., history, anthropology, education, performance, media, material culture, economics, which shed light on African descendants’ transatlantic memories, blackness, and diasporic identity formation and experiences are welcome. Papers adopting comparative lenses in investigating how memories of enslavement and European colonization impact diasporic identity formation and the experience of blackness in the diaspora (in Canada and beyond) are also relevant.

The deadline for submissions is 1 February 2022
