Great Books on Africa - Africana in Basel

Lecture series

A long tradition of interaction with and research on Africa is reflected in the libraries of Basel where many of the great books on Africa can be found. These range from the works of early cartographers such as Sebastian Münster and of explorers' accounts such as those of  David Livingstone to the studies of African nationalists such as Jomo Kenyatta.

In thirteen lectures both international and local researchers present one such publication each, together with its social biography. The books will be on display and following the lecture visitors have the opportunity to exchange ideas with the presenter.
