Remembering March 6, 1957

A public discussion on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Ghana's independence

Fifty years ago Ghana's declaration of independence opened the era of decolonisation in Africa. The former British Crown Colony Ghana became a sovereign African state. The celebration of independence on 6 March 1957 was a strong signal that was noticed world wide - not least in Switzerland that had been an important trading partner in the colonial economy. In this third and last Café Africa of this season two witnesses recall their memories of a time that was marked by high hopes and optimism but also by doubt and  fear.
