A film club called "African History Movie Night" is being hosted once a month during the Autumn semester 2026, at the History Department – coordinated by Max Hufschmidt, Kai Kersten-Kwame and Claire Nicolas.

Classic features from African cinema will be shown, produced during the 1960s and 1970s across the African continent. Everyone is invited, there will be snacks and all movies are provided with English subtitles.

“The Battle of Algiers” is a 1966 Italian-Algerian war film co-written and directed by Gillo Pontecorvo. It is based on action undertaken by rebels during the Algerian War (1954–1962) against the French government in North Africa, the most prominent being the eponymous Battle of Algiers, the capital of Algeria.
