The Centre for African Studies Basel
The Centre for African Studies Basel coordinates Africa-related teaching and research at the University of Basel and its partner institutions. It is an internationally recognized Centre for interdisciplinary research and offers a Master and a PhD in African Studies as consecutive university degrees, as well as a continuing education programme for professionals.
The Centre for African Studies Basel promotes the exchange between disciplines, faculties and institutions. Among our associate members are the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH), the Museum of Cultures, Mission 21 and the Basler Afrika Bibliographien (BAB).

An interdisciplinary focus on Africa
MA African Studies
Students acquire knowledge and skills to interact with Africa in an interdisciplinary and scientifically sound way. In addition, transdisciplinarity is promoted by integrating practical knowledge from outside the university and introducing students to applied researchfields.
Basel Graduate Network African Studies
The Graduate Network offers specialized doctoral programmes for PhD students across disciplines and faculties. The programme seeks to enhance the quality and relevance of both interdisciplinary and disciplinary Africa-related research.
