Interactive workshop on all levels with or without experience with Daymé Arocena

Tis Orin workshop invites participants to experience the richness of Cuban folkloric music through voice, movement, and collective participation. Open to people of all backgrounds and experience levels, the workshop offers an immersive introduction to traditional Afro-Cuban songs and dances, encouraging participants to embody the rhythms, melodies, and expressive movements that have been passed down through generations. Rooted in the oral traditions of Cuban folklore, these songs evoke the forces of nature and its many manifestations, reflecting the deep spiritual and cultural connections between music, the natural world, and community. More than a learning experience, Orin offers a unique opportunity to feel these living traditions in the body, fostering connection, creativity, and cultural understanding.

Daymé Arocena is a Grammy-nominated and Juno Award–winning Afro-Cuban singer, composer and choir director. Relying on instinct and intuition is how Arocena has managed her career since she burst onto the international scene with Nueva Era, her prodigious debut album, in 2015. In 2021, she became the youngest Latin American musician to complete Berklee College of Music’s Signature Artist program. She reinvented her sound with Alkemi, released in 2024, blending neo-soul vocals, Afro-Caribbean rhythms, and modern pop. The album embraces influences ranging from jazz to urban stylings, pushing the boundaries of contemporary Latin pop. Most recently, Daymé received a Grammy nomination for Best Latin Jazz Album for The Original Influencers: Dizzy, Chano & Chico, a project honoring the roots and ongoing evolution of Latin jazz, while spotlighting her remarkable contribution as one of the leading voices of the new Cuban musical wave.
