Today, the Sahel region is experiencing a multidimensional crisis characterized by persisting socio-economic fragility, increasing political unrest, serious inter-community conflicts and recurring environmental disasters. Other challenges, such as the current COVID-19 pandemic, the effects of climate change, the demographic boom, human rights violations and judicial impunity for their perpetrators further exacerbate these fragilities. This session aims to provide original inputs from experts and analysts on the key instability factors in the Sahel such as socio-economic precariousness, communitarian rivalries, institutional vulnerability and criminal supply chain as well as new destabilizing factors such as the effects of the COVID pandemic and the Malian transition. Participants will also discuss the risks of spillover of the Sahelian instability across neighboring region. During the webinar, participants will have the possibility to interact with speaker and discussant via Q&A and Chat.
