Book discussion: "Il n'y a pas d'arc-en-ciel au paradis"
"Il n'y a pas d'arc-en-ciel au paradis" ("There is no rainbow in the paradise") by the Chadian-Swiss writer Noël Nétonon Ndjékéry was published in 2022. It gives us a glimpse into the horrors of the Trans-Saharan slave trade. Ndjékéry tells a 200-year-old story, from the caravans on their way to the Arabian Peninsula, to the French colonization, the recruitment of African gunmen in World Wars I and II, to the rise of the jihadist Boko Haram movement. His story is about deprivation of freedom and human exploitation in the now Chad region.
The talk will be in French with German translation.
