Concert: "Jah Baba"

An irresistible fusion of West African rhythm, jazz, afrobeat, and gospel

Jah Baba

Beninese singer, trumpeter, and Batà player Jah Baba – hailing from a Yoruba family – is celebrated in Benin’s contemporary scene as one of the undisputed masters of Batà and Gangan percussion, both sacred instruments used in ceremonial traditions. Beyond his artistry, Baba is also an activist engaged in social and cultural issues. His music is dense and pulsating, driven by vital polyrhythms and complex harmonies. Inspired by the likes of Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, and Miles Davis, he sings with powerful conviction about justice, nature, and the transmission of Africa’s cultural heritage.

"Roche 'n' Jazz" in the framework of the festival Culturescapes Sahara 2025.
