It all began in 2011, when Mark Ernestus (known for Basic Channel, Rhythm & Sound and Hard Wax) traveled to Senegal. There he invited over 20 percussionists to a spontaneous recording session in Dakar. The recordings were later mixed in Berlin and released in 2012 under the name “Mark Ernestus presents Jeri-Jeri” on the two albums "800% Ndagga" and "Ndagga Versions" - named after the clan name of the Sabar drummers. The group became a rousing live band, playing clubs and major festivals throughout Europe and leaving their initial boundaries behind. Their long-awaited new album "Khadim" was released in April 2025 on Ernestus' own label Ndagga. It contains four sprawling, intricate tracks reminiscent of Ernestus' earlier work with Rhythm & Sound. Vocalist Mbene Diatta Seck and experienced percussionist Bada Seck inspire with their impressive stage presence and are supported by other musicians from the Dakar scene.
