Named after the influential Ivorian writer Ahmadou Kourouma, this prestigious award honours a work of fiction that reflects the spirit of independence, clarity, and foresight synonymous with Kourouma’s literary and humanist legacy. The prize will be presented at the Geneva Salon du Livre, and the newly crowned winner will appear in Basel to share insights into contemporary literature from sub-Saharan Africa.
The nominees are: “Transhumances” by Bilguissa Diallo (Éditions Elyzad), “La prière du cochon” by Libar M. Fofana (Gallimard), “Nation cannibale” by In Koli Jean Bofane (Éditions Denoël), and “Sœurs esclaves” by Maurice Bandaman (Présence Africaine Éditions / Éditions Eburnie). The winner will be announced on March 20, 2026, at the Geneva Salon du Livre.
This event is organized in collaboration with the Salon du Livre, the African Studies program, and the French Department of the University of Basel.
