Tuberculosis is still considered a 'black' illness in the post-apartheid era. Stacy Hardy suffered from a disorder for eight years before her condition was eventually diagnosed. In the latest work of director Laila Soliman, Hardy presents her personal story within the social-historical context of South Africa. Approaching topics from a critical perspective, she manages to interweave personal diary entries with historical archive material. The performance highlights the precariat of bodies in relation to race and gender and questions the historic and systemic barbarity of our health and political systems. A central element is the live music with protest and workers songs, studied, arranged and performed by the pianist Neo Muyanga and the violinist Nancy Mounir. The Basel-based puppet theatre maker and puppet designer Marius Kob has created a doppelgänger puppet of the performer, activist and author Stacy Hardy especially for this performance.
