Écume

"Écume" combines choreographic and audiovisual approaches and questions the role of the sacred in our modern societies. The French-German filmmaker Tawan Arun is currently shooting a documentary in Benin for ARTE, which is due to be released in early 2026, where he deals with the representation of the invisible in voodoo. For Culturescapes, the two choreographers Lucrèce Atchadé and Rachelle Agbossou enter into a dialog with Arun's video installation and bring a contemporary African perspective to the voodoo cult surrounding Mami Wata ("Mother of Water"). Their artistic approach reflects the situation of women in Benin and refers to the symbolic power of the Amazons, the legendary warriors of the kingdom of Dahomey. The physical dimension of their dance expresses struggle, resistance, beauty and the transmission of a strong cultural heritage.

With aftertalk.
