In her current solo, Ivorian choreographer Nadia Beugré takes us back to the village of her ancestors, to the village of her childhood: Yikakou. The village no longer exists: the land, which was considered cursed, is now covered in forest - fertile ground for myth, longing and the legacy of the ancestors. At the center of the journey is the figure who gave it its name: Gbahihonon, "the woman who says what she sees". A seer, a protector, a woman of great knowledge and unwavering presence. Other spirits of powerful women permeate this performance, including Dô-Kamissa, an ageing woman who, in the Sundiata epic, transformed herself into a buffalo after being injured by her brother in order to destroy her country. Together with Charlotte Dali and Salimata Diabate, Beugré embodies all these different women in an powerful performance that resembles a ritual. With musical wit, the three share every drop of their own existence and that of their ancestors who still live within them.
