Once a month, the Culturescapes festival reads through a canon from the Sahara focus region with a public reading group. As part of the book weeks, the reading group is devoting itself to “Decolonizing the Mind” by Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o. This was first published in 1986 and is one of the best-known and most cited non-fiction books on the “language debate” in postcolonial theory. In view of Podium at BuchBasel, the group will read these four seminal essays together. An anti-imperialist perspective on the fate of Africa and the role of languages.
