Culturescapes Sahara 2025
Once a month, Culturescapes reads through a canon of literature from its focus region, the Sahara, with a public reading group.
At the end of November, the group will be reading “Minaret” (2005) by Leila Aboulela. It tells the story of Najwa, who grows up in a privileged, Western-oriented upper-class family in Khartoum and loses her wealth while in political exile in London. Left to fend for herself, she has to start over and works as a maid and cleaner for wealthy families. As she struggles to build a new life, she befriends women from the Muslim community.
In German, limited number of places, registration via info@clutterculturescapes.ch. The location in Basel will be announced upon registration.
