Roundtable: "Remembering the Future. Rethinking Decoloniality"

Mission 21

Memories are shaped by the past. This is valid for individuals as well as for societies. However, can one remember the future too?

Mission 21s new conference offer, Roundtable 2026, is dedicated to this topic and invites to reflect and exchange thereupon – “against the current.” Remembering should not only be understood as a process oriented toward the past but more so to the future: How do people succeed to live together peacefully being fully conscious of the need to heal each other’s wounds – for example due to transmitted hatred, wars or violent oppression?

The roundtable also wishes to pose these questions decidedly from the perspective of younger generations. Decoloniality, thus, opens a creative and ethical horizon, into which the debate will be embedded. Insights from diverse fields of practice, as well as from various historical and cultural contexts will be drawn upon.

The rountable will be held in person in English and German.
