On 20 February 2026, Andreas Heuser, Professor of Non-European Christianity (with a focus on Africa) at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Basel, will celebrate his 65th birthday. We seize this opportunity to look back on his academic work and to honour him appropriately.
In one of his articles, Andreas uses the term ‘epochal processes of change’ to describe the profound transformation Christianity is undergoing as a result of migration. The theme of transformation processes runs like a thread through his academic work: from his research on the global Pentecostal movement to his examination of the geographical shift of Christianity towards the South, to migration, and ecumenism. The symposium will take up some of these topics and explore them in depth in dialogue with invited speakers and with Andreas himself. Together, we want to highlight, discuss and celebrate the diverse perspectives of his work.
In addition to the academic discussion, there will also be opportunities for personal encounters and celebration.
