Symposium: "Towards gender equality: transforming leadership and career development in higher education"

Two-day interactive symposium

This two day symposium explores the barriers and facilitators of women’s leadership and career development in higher education across the global south and north. It includes a special two-hour training session for early-career scholars run by 64MillionArtists. Participants at all career stages will also have the opportunity, if they wish, to take part in a focus group on experiences of career development.

Speakers at the symposium include Nana Aba Appiah Amfo (Vice Chancellor, University of Ghana), Jyotsna Jalan (Professor of Economics, Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Kolkata) and Susan Murphy (Professor of Leadership Development, University of Edinburgh).

The symposium forms part of a comparative network project, funded by the RSE exploring women’s leadership across three sectors: politics, industry and higher education. It is being undertaken by the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH) at the University of Edinburgh; the Maria Sibylla Merian Institute for Advanced Studies in Africa (MIASA) at the University of Ghana; and the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences (CSSS), Kolkata.

The symposium is online only and free to attend.
