Jaimitna ("our tent") is a traveling multimedia artivism project initiated by Sahrawi women activists, in collaboration with FiSahara and the Norwegian Support Committee for Western Sahara "Nomads". At its heart is the jaima, the traditional Sahrawi tent, which serves as a powerful symbol of the community’s resilience, identity, and cultural continuity in the face of colonialism, occupation, and displacement.
The exhibition weaves together visual art, storytelling, and lived experience, offering a unique insight into the everyday realities and resistance of Sahrawi activists. It can be visited at Markthalle from 21 October to 1 November. On 26 October, a short film (approx. 20 minutes) featuring “Jaimitna” and the women portrayed in the project will be screened. This will be followed by a discussion with Waara Jaya, one of the activists featured in "Jaimitna", and Asria Mohamed Taleb, a Norway-based artist and human rights defender from Western Sahara.
The talk, hosted by Sylvia Valentin from terre des hommes schweiz, will focus on their work as Sahrawi human rights defenders and activists, exploring themes of resistance, identity, and the role of women in the struggle for self-determination.
In collaboration with terre des hommes schweiz.
