Conference: "The African Genome at the Disciplinary Crossroads: how to widen the scope of genomics’ methods across to the humanities and social sciences"
This conference brings together scholars across the traditional "divide" between the natural sciences and the social sciences and humanities in order to explore how issues of identity and ethnicity play out in genomics research at an interdisciplinary level. Moreover, the objective is to consider the ways in which colonial history has had an impact on how the "African genome" is defined and used.
Organized by the Centre for African Studies and the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Basel – on behalf of the Swiss Society for African Studies with financial support from the Swiss Academy of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Convenor: Henri Michel Yéré, Centre for African Studies and Department of Social Sciences, University of Basel
