Call for Presentations: "Cinematic Justice – Films Meets Histories of the Present"

12th Namibia Research Day, 16–17 October 2026, Basler Afrika Bibliographien

The BAB invites students, researchers, and cultural practitioners working in and on Namibia to join us for the 12th Namibia Research Day, held simultaneously in Windhoek and Basel.

This year’s Research Day will be curated around 4 to 5 movies and documentaries which deploy cinematic aesthetics to address historical themes and contemporary issues, followed by discussions with film makers, critics and scholars. Screenings on Friday evening, 16 October, and on Saturday, 17 October, will take place at venues in both cities, followed by hybrid discussions.

The BAB invites filmmakers and scholars of film to suggest 1 or 2 films they wish to present and discuss. Additionally, they seek brief contributions from diverse disciplines and practices which engage critically with Namibian film productions over time.

To participate, kindly send your film suggestions and/or a short abstract or project summary (max. half a page). Send your suggestions and/or register by 31st August 2026 to Dag Henrichsen (dh@baslerafrika.ch)
