Doctoral Position (100%) in Global or Extra-European History

The chair History of the Modern World at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology(ETH Zürich) invites applications for a Doctoral Position (100%) in Global or Extra-European History.
The PhD position is for four years and the thesis will be supervised by Prof. Dr. Harald Fischer-Tiné. The beginning is March 1st, 2021(or at the candidate’s earliest convenience). Applicants should hold an M.A. (or an M.Phil.). Applications are welcome from candidates with a background in 18th to 20th century Global History; Imperial/Colonial History, African History, Middle Eastern History, South East Asian History, East Asian History and related fields. Applicants should be proficient in English (ideally native or near-native speakers). Preference will be given to candidates who additionally master at least one non-European Language, (such as e.g. Arabic, Swahili, Burmese or Chinese). Knowledge of German and/or French is a welcome asset, but not mandatory. Scholars with a project pertaining the history of Switzerland in its global or colonial contexts are also encouraged to apply.
