Job: Assistant Professor of Africa or the Caribbean

The Department of Africana Studies seeks to fill a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor specializing in Africa or the Caribbean. The Departments seeks to fill this position with a scholar who has a commitment to an engaged student-centered teaching pedagogy and a demonstrated interest in and vision for the future of Africana Studies, and whose research applies to the needs and interests of Africana communities in Africa or the Caribbean (including history, culture, political economy, post-colonialism, gender relationships, cultural patterns and behavior, family, housing and employment, and other areas). Further, the scholar’s research and teaching philosophies should interrogate the intersection of history, culture, society, power, and behavior from a culturally centered perspective. This hire would strengthen the department’s Africa and Diaspora specializations within the major and curriculum and offer and/or design general education and specialized courses on the Africana experiences in Africa or the Caribbean. In addition, the hire would help address human capital needs of our full-time faculty in enabling the department to meet the needs of department responsibilities and initiatives and new initiatives on campus. Overall, this position will strengthen and grow the department’s Africa or Caribbean focus to highlight the diversity and commonalities of Africana people.
