Provenance Research in Switzerland: New Research Association
Researchers working in museums, archives and libraries as well as universities and the art market founded a research association for provenance Research, the Schweizerischer Arbeitskreis Provenienzforschung. A focus will be on the collection and transfer of objects in a colonial context.
The aim of the association is to establish exchange across institutions on national and international level. Provenance research is understood as an examination of the historical acquisition contexts of artefacts and collections. This includes the study of Swiss cultural policy, of acquisitions for private and public collections as well as of transnational entanglements in the transfer of assets, especially in contexts of colonial rule or the Nazi regime.
Employees of governmental or state-funded institutions that carry out provenance research within the scope of their duties as well as natural persons who work full-time in provenance research are invited to become members.
