Concert: Carlo Mombelli & students - "Impulses in the centre of silence"
Carlo Mombellli (Johannesburg) has performed with many renowned musicians such as Barbara Dennerlein, Mick Goodrick, Charlie Mariano, Egberto Gismonti, Adrian Mears, Lee Konitz, Marcus Wyatt, Malcolm Braff, Samuel Blaser or Miriam Makeba. 2010 he was artist in residence in Basel and performed with his now discontinued cult band Prisoners of Strange – "spontaneous freestyle chamber jazz ensemble" (Mombelli). In October 2015 and spring 2017 he led great projects featuring students of the Swiss jazz schools.
This week he worked again with students of the Jazzcampus. Carlo Mombelli says: "I don't force compositions but wait for them to develop naturally. My compositions emerge from stories, experiences, incidents, feelings and my south african environment. They are driven by the urge to transcend the false limits of my perception and to search for the beauty amongst my angels and demons. Let's see how the composition process goes."
