2018, shortly after a captivating Makanda Jazz Festival, a couple of the musicians from Johannesburg and Bern involved in the festival met at the Roving Bantu Kitchen in Brixton, Johannesburg. After a week of jamming and little sleep a new project was born - The Mill. It is a mix of rich horn arrangements, sensitive piano grooves and razor-sharp guitar intonations. Sounds that combine into a Mbaqangaesque-Berne-Third Stream-Gospel-stile expressing the here and now. The collective led by trumpeter and composer Mandla Mlangeni performs compositions by all of its members.
