Call for contributions for the supporting program of the upcoming exhibition «Deal with it»
The upcoming exhibition “Deal with it” aims to realize a long overdue critical and differentiated examination of the history of Basel's institutional African landscape. For the supporting program, the organizers invite institutions, companies, collectives or individuals to contribute events and activities.
The exhibition “Deal with it” will take place from 25 August to mid-November 2023 in the exhibition room of the University Library Basel and is organized by the Basler Afrika Bibliographien. Project partners are the University of Basel (University Library, ZASB), Mission 21, Swiss TPH and Museum der Kulturen Basel.
The exhibition presents the individual as well as the common history of Africa-related institutions in Basel and focuses on the networks and connections between the institutions and individuals who (did) act within this network. The content of the exhibition takes into account the debates on the decolonisation of collections and knowledge.
The supporting program will cover the entire Basel area. Institutions, companies, collectives or individuals are invited to contribute events and activities. Optionally, an input can also be made in cooperation with one of the Basel institutions mentioned above.
The deadline for submissions is 28 April 2023.
