Welcome to the Fachgruppe of the Master's Program in African Studies

We are thrilled to introduce you to the heart of our student community – the Fachgruppe, a dedicated group of elected student representatives who strive to make your academic journey at the University of Basel enriching and memorable.

What is the Fachgruppe?

The Fachgruppe (FG) African Studies is the official body of all students in this master’s program within the Center for African Studies Basel (ZASB). The primary mission of this FG is to ensure that your voice is heard, and your concerns are addressed during your time here. The FG African Studies encompasses all students pursuing their master’s degree in African Studies and is your access to student politics at the University of Basel. It designates the student representation to various bodies within the Centre and via the student union at the University of Basel (skuba) to the highest echelons of this University.

Every semester, during the general assembly, students elect the executive committee. This committee advocates and works tirelessly to represent your views and interests to the ZASB and the wider university administration. Another area of responsibility for the FG is the coordination of various events for the students. However, you do not need to be a committee member to contribute your ideas or projects to the FG; we are always open to and thankful for input from students.
