Book launch and workshop: "The Reports of Theophilus Opoku" edited by Paul Jenkins und Michelle Gilbert

The Centre for African Studies invites you to celebrate the conclusion of a monumental project spanning half a century.

[Translate to English:] Historical picture of the king of Akuapem (Ghana) with his entourage from the Basel Mission Archives

Over 50 years Michelle Gilbert and Paul Jenkins have engaged with the reports of Revd Theophilus Opoku - a prolific writer and careful observer in the kingdom of Akuapem. This volume published in the Fontes Historiae Africanae series of the British Library brings their immense knowledge to fruition and invites readers to engage with the rich material.

Workshop: A Conversation with Theophilus Opoku

Prior to the book launch we offer a workshop with participants of the study trip "The Mission at Home". In small, mixed groups composed of young and established researchers in History and Theology from Ghana and Switzerland, we will engage with one of Reverend Opoku's reports each and will then discuss our findings in a plenary session.
