The intercultural communication experts Karina & Stefan Rey will lead us through the evening with accounts drawing on their own experiences and with active involvement of the audience.
In a short introduction, «Communication by hand and foot», they will explain why fruitful dialogue depends on a holistic perception of other persons in their cultural context. They will familiarize us with the differences between high and low context cultures and will illustrate the role of body language and how is it used.
First impressions count: How do I approach colleagues, superiors or strangers to start a conversation? What are good phrases to break the «ice»? How do I interpret verbal and non-verbal communication and how do I consciously use it? What are special features of Swiss conversation culture: forms of address and saying farewell with names and handshakes? When are kisses appropriate, when not? When and where does one use the informal you – du? How does this differ in professional and private life?
We will conclude the evening with interactive exercises on perceptiveness, greeting and starting the conversation: How do I present myself? How will I be perceived? Am I even perceived?
