Congonnexion: Collection of music instruments
Congonnexion is an initiative of musicians and artists from Basel, in collaboration with friends from the Democratic Republic of Congo, living and active in Basel, Kinshasa and Boma.
In the Democratic Republic of Congo, sounds, music and everyday life are closely interwoven. However, access to functioning and affordable musical instruments and equipment is difficult to obtain. One inspiring result of this is home-made instruments. Bands such as Kokoko or Fulu Miziki, for example, have become internationally known for this. However, access to classically built instruments and equipment remains a need.
Renting instruments is expensive and makes the work of local cultural venues, musicians and music schools more difficult. Congonnexion therefore collects functioning musical instruments and infrastructure.
Anyone who has well-functioning and unused musical instruments can hand them in at the first edition of Congonnexion on Sunday, 2 March. In addition to instruments, studio and live equipment will also be accepted. These will benefit music and art professionals in Kinshasa and Boma.
The event will be rounded off with Congolese food and music.
