Symposium: Decolonial Imaginaries in Literary and Urban Studies

This two-day collaborative event aims to foster an open and exploratory dialogue between scholars in urban and literary studies.

decolonial imaginaries

The interdisciplinary symposium "Decolonial Imaginaries in Literary and Urban Studies" is co-organized by Tammy Imboden, a doctoral researcher in Literary Studies focusing on representations of the city in urban fiction, and Andreea Midvighi. This two-day collaborative event aims to foster an open and exploratory dialogue between scholars in urban and literary studies. It offers a unique platform for the presentation of research papers, workshops, and interactive discussions.

It features two keynote lectures by:

  • Dominic Davies, a literary scholar working on the imagination of infrastructure and infrastructural violence.
  • Catalina Ortiz, an urbanist focusing on radical spatial imagination at the crossroads of informality, urban heritage, and urban learning.

We are also excited to host a conversation with critically acclaimed author Ana Filomena Amaral, who will discuss her 2019 novel Chasing Walls.

Who Should Attend? Although the symposium primarily targets scholars in Urban and Literary Studies, we invite participation from scholars across all departments, including advanced MA students.
