Guided City Tour: "African Studies – an exploration of Basel"
During our 90 minutes' walk we discuss the manifold connections between Basel and Africa. We get to know entrepreneurs marketing the exotic, trace racism in children's books, shed light on the relations between Switzerland and South Africa during the times of apartheid, engage with the tribal displays at the Basel zoo, and meet with a young woman from Ghana living in 19th century Basel. Finally, we look at Basel as a hinterland of the triangular trade. A discussion of the flow of goods, the textile industry, insurances and banks open up a new view at the Basel economy.
Free entrance - no reservation required
