Concert: Ala Fekra
The Ala Fekra Ensemble plays lively folk music enriched with jazz elements, combining alpine influences with Northern African music. It was founded on the initiative of accordionist Patricia Draeger after she met the musicians Amr Darwish and Yamen Abdallah during a stay in Cairo. With long-time companion Albin Brun, bassist André Pousaz and drummer Samuel Baur, three accomplished Swiss musicians joined the group. Together they developed a repertoire of mainly original compositions. After several concerts in Egypt and Switzerland, the ensemble released a first album in 2020. In 2021, the qanun player Yamen Abdallah passed away. The young oud player Mahmoud Desouki, also from Cairo, stepped in for him.
