Music Theatre: Not Another Diva ... (Hlengiwe Lushaba & Faustin Linyekula)
The collaboration between the director, performer and singer Hlengiwe Lushaba and the director Faustin Linyekula focuses on the invention of «another kind of» diva: A diva beyond the glitter and glamour, a diva of the here and now, who decides about what and with whom she dreams. Tales about the female legacy and how it is passed down from one generation to the next form the basis for some of the songs penned by Hlengiwe Lushaba. She takes centre stage during the evening with her commanding stage presence and vocals. She is joined on stage by the Pantsula dancer Johanna Tshabalala from Johannesburg and an accomplished ensemble of musicians from Kinshasa, Kisangani and Philadelphia. Not Another Diva... blends Congolese Ndombolo and Rumba with the energetically-charged compositions of South African divas in a breathtaking theatrical concert.
