Reading: "Imani" by author Mia Couto

The event is taking place in the framework of the openair literature festival Zurich

In Imani, Mia Couto looks at the bloody colonial history with its inner-African upheavals, which gives the book an amazing topicality. For years, Couto has collected memories and stories for this great polyphonic novel.

Mia Couto, born in 1955 in Beira, Mozambique, as the son of Portuguese immigrants, is one of Africa's most outstanding writers. He worked for several years as a journalist and editor-in-chief of the newspapers Tempo and Notícias de Maputo. Couto has received several awards for his work, most recently the Prémio Camões in 2013 and the renowned Neustadt Literature Prize in 2014. Mia Couto lives in Maputo.
