Osnabrück University’s Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS) invites applications for the position of a

Research Fellow (f/m/d) (salary level 13 TV-L, 65 %)

for the research project “Women, Forced Migration – and Peace? Peace-building Practices of Women in Refugee Camps”, funded by the German Foundation for Peace Research (DSF), for a period of two years (starting as soon as possible).

What meaning do people who have fled from violent conflict ascribe to peace? This question forms the core of the research project "Women, Forced Migration – and Peace?". Based on exploratory research in the case study of the refugee camp Kakuma in Kenya, the project aims to explore how women in particular understand peace, how they want to contribute to peace, and what opportunities and limitations they experience in their peace-related practices.

Description of responsibilities:

  • carrying out data collection in the refugee camp Kakuma in Kenya (research stay of three months
  • supporting data analysis as well as publication of findings
  • supporting the organization of workshops for academic and practice-oriented exchange

Required qualifications:

  • university degree (master or equivalent) in social science or humanities with top grades
  • excellent knowledge in forced migration and refugee studies or in peace and conflict studies
  • good knowledge of qualitative research methods
  • good command of English

Desired qualifications:

  • good knowledge of gender studies
  • basic knowledge of Somali, Juba-Arabic or Swahili
  • interest in interdisciplinary research and discussions
  • Sensitive approach empirical research; ability to work in a team; communication skills; self-driven and self-organized
