Prof. em. Jane Taylor (1956-2023)
The South African scholar and former visiting scholar at eikones and the Centre for African Studies passed away in Cape Town.
Jane Taylor held the Andrew W. Mellon Chair of Aesthetic Theory and Material Performance at the University of the Western Cape until her retirement in January 2022. Tragically, shortly afterwards in February 2022, she suffered a stroke with severe consequences during her fellowship in Basel. Jane worked hard to overcome these limitations and despite the adverse circumstances maintained a great sense of humour. Now she has passed away unexpectedly and suddenly. Sadly, we bid farewell to Jane and remember our enriching encounters. A big thank you goes to all those who have accompanied and supported Jane since her stroke, both in Basel and in Cape Town. A tribute will follow shortly.
