Konzert: Nduduzo Makhathini Quartet

Concert organized by gambrinus jazz plus in collaboration with kleinaberfein

Raised in a lush and rugged South African landscape where music and ritual practices are symbolically intertwined, pianist Nduduzo Makhathini plays with a deep spirituality; his experiences as a traditional Zulu healer are inseparable from his improvisational performance. Drawing on the history of South African jazz legends Bheki Mseleku, Moses Molelekwa and Abdullah Ibrahim, Makhathini combines influences from the great American jazz canon such as John Coltrane, McCoy Tyner and Randy Weston to create a cross-continental, multi-layered melodic groove. On his new album "In The Spirit Of Ntu", pianist Nduduzo Makhathini pays tribute to his South African roots and idols such as Abdullah Ibrahim, Bheki Mseleku, John Coltrane and McCoy Tyner.

Line-up:

Nduduzo Makhathini: piano
Logan Richardson: alto saxophone
Zwelakhe-Dumas Bell Le Pere: bass
Chad Taylor: drums
