Konzert: Nduduzo Makhathini Trio
Last year, the South African pianist Nduduzo Makhathini has issued his album «In the Spirit of Ntu» with Blue Note Africa, a new sub-label of Blue Note Records, as the very first ever. Therein, h densifies sound- and conceptional ideas from his previous albums. Furthermore, he shows up in trio on our stage, through which his music becomes even more intensive and immediate. Makhathini has been the central person in the vibrating jazz scene of South Africa for decades with his subtle yet dynamic play and he connects at the highest level the roots of the Zulu-culture with contemporary jazz from South Africa, USA and Europe. «Ntu», by the way, comes from «Ubuntu», which means approximately “I am, because you are”. It stands for humanity, charity and collectivity – in his music one can hear and feel it at its best – and most beautiful.
