Nikki Grout: "Legacies of Collecting, Collaboration and Co-production: The British Museum and West Africa"

University of Brighton, British Museum

Lecture by Nikki Grout, PhD Researcher, The British Museum and University of Brighton

Abstract:
This presentation will discuss early and understudied examples of international museum practice that took place between the British Museum, the Ghana National Museum and the Nigerian National Museum in the years surrounding West African independence (1950–1970). It will explore how these early co-operations evolved and consider what influence they have had on current museum relationships and networks. It will ask how a better understanding of the foundations of contemporary collaborative work can inform future practice.

This talk is part of the program accompanying the exhibition ‘Points of View. Visions of a Museum Partnership’.
