CD: Urban Village Udondolo

Cover

With Udondolo, Urban Village present a varied, well-rehearsed record. The masterful quartet plays vibrant mbaqanga, but goes further in the process.

Besides all the house and electro productions that reach us from South Africa, there are also younger musicians who reflect on the soundtrack of the anti-apartheid struggle. The four Soweto-born musicians let new and electronic things flow into their music. Conversely, they also set an example for simple street music. The result is an immersion in great diversity. Pop with tradition. Experimental with acoustic. And again and again folk harmonies or these fascinating polyrythms as we know them from Afrobeat. Experiencing Urban Village live would certainly be a great pleasure.
