Open call: IN PROCESS 2027 "Swisstopia – Afrofuturism to rethink Switzerland"

DOCK

IN PROCESS is an exhibition format by DOCK that reaches out to artists from its archive, as well as those who wish to be part of it. Twice a year, process-based exhibition projects are shown by both less experienced and established artists who are active, based or registered in Basel-Stadt and Basel-Land.

Swisstopia – Afrofuturism to rethink Switzerland
Whether it’s Marrakesh, Nairobi, Accra, Dakar, Cape Town or Addis Ababa, the African continent moves, inspires and shapes the world. Thinkers such as Amilcar Cabral, Nawal El Saadawi and Nelson Mandela have left us with ideas that are needed more urgently than ever. Whilst some in the West cling to outdated ways of thinking and view the African continent solely through a lens of deficiency, we see the reality: a space brimming with dynamism, modern visions and groundbreaking innovation. At the same time, we are witnessing a step backwards in Switzerland: conservative and outdated worldviews are gaining ground. Exclusion and racist attitudes are becoming socially acceptable once again. But how can a globally connected country survive in the future if it isolates itself intellectually?

What if we were to rethink Switzerland’s future from the perspective of African society, its ways of life and philosophies? DOCK aims to bring these perspectives into the light and is wondering which stories, voices and utopian visions are missing from our collective archive – and how we can fill this space together.

Students from HGK Basel are excluded from the open call – students from other universities are welcome to participate.

Submission deadline: 30 September 2026
