Die Afrikaforschung in Basel blickt auf eine lange Tradition in diversen Institutionen in der Region zurück und wird durch das Bekenntnis der Universität Basel zur Forschung zu, in, mit und für Afrika weiter gefördert. Unser Zentrum ist die Schnittstelle für den Austausch zwischen den verschiedenen Disziplinen und Fakultäten sowie den ausseruniversitären Partnerinstitutionen im Forschungsnetzwerk Afrika.

Auf der Grundlage der vorhandenen Kompetenzen und Forschungsinteressen haben wir für das Forschungsnetzwerk Afrika fünf Kernbereiche definiert: Governance and statehood, Public health, Urban diversity, R&D against diseases, Knowledge.

Die fünf Kernbereiche werden durch den transversalen Forschungsschwerpunkt Living the City und den regionalen Fokus Namibian and Southern African Studies ergänzt.


Forschungsbereiche

Die Forschung in den fünf Kernbereichen trägt dazu bei, wichtige Lücken im Verständnis des raschen Wandels afrikanischer Gesellschaften zu schliessen, konzeptionelle und methodische Herausforderungen in der interdisziplinären und disziplinären Forschung anzugehen und die sozioökonomische Entwicklung auf dem Kontinent voranzutreiben.
